In January this year, the report Marne szanse… SPRAWDZAM! A Study on the Presence of Women in State Art Academies 2025 was published. The project refers back to an earlier study conducted ten years prior: Marne szanse na awanse? One of the most striking differences between 2015 and 2025 is the increase in erotic propositions and unwanted sexual situations initiated by staff members toward female students.
This troubling and unexpected finding—particularly in light of growing social awareness and contemporary equality discourse—serves as a point of departure for a discussion dedicated to all forms of misconduct and violence identified in the study, experienced by women working and studying at art academies in Poland.
The discussion will address multiple dimensions of these experiences: structural and institutional, symbolic, linguistic, emotional and relational, as well as sexual. The panel will bring together individuals with diverse backgrounds, allowing the issue to be examined from a range of perspectives, including sociology, law, psychology, and lived experience.
The aim of the meeting is to initiate a broader conversation that can drive meaningful change. Let us work to ensure that there is nothing left to “check” ten years from now.
