Decorative Interior Elements
We would like to invite you to Dominika Olszowy’s exhibition Decorative Interior Elements. It is a story about seeking balance in a world that is losing its stability – about care that begins with our immediate surroundings, about decorating that stems from the need for solace, and about the effort to regain well-being. The exhibition is open from 28 November 2025 and runs until 15 March 2026.
Personal and emotional themes appear consistently in Dominika Olszowy’s practice, yet they always intertwine with universal reflections on existential tension, fears and doubts.
A cat recites the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, furry and purring clouds stand next to a cup of spilled coffee, and cigarette butts lie in the sink. The melancholic sadness that permeates Olszowy’s works comes with a substantial dose of absurdity and irony. The intimacy of these expressions lends them authenticity. The visual language of the works, guided by surreal imagination and poetic sensitivity, generates an atmosphere of unease tinged with a sense of mystery.
At the same time, Decorative Interior Elements is an exhibition about coping with crises. We attend to what we can influence: we surround ourselves with an environment that allows us to recover and restore balance.
The exhibition will include video works embedded in post-internet aesthetics and spatial installations composed of the artist’s sculptures. Olszowy typically uses simple materials, drawing on the existential potential of everyday objects. She renders them surreal, transforming them into building blocks for a world suspended between fantasy and a strangely appealing nightmare. Her exhibitions resemble materialised images, in which each object contributes to intricate narratives shaped by a theatrical imagination.
The familiar yet surreal atmosphere of these works invites every sensitive viewer to feel at home here – in a world that seems strangely recognisable and entirely unreal.
