Soil and Friends
- Soil and Friends is a project about our relationship with soil – weaving together art and care for nature. It was developed in collaboration between the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art and the PLATO City Gallery in Ostrava (Czech Republic). It encompasses two exhibitions (the first now on view at Ujazdowski Castle, the second to open in Ostrava in 2026), a public program, artist residencies, and activities in public space.
- For centuries, soil was seen as unimportant, ordinary, even dirty – simply something that exists, to be used like any other object or commodity. Today, we are beginning to see that soil is far more than just a backdrop. And although it lies right beneath our feet, we still know surprisingly little about it.
- Soil is alive. The world of beings that inhabit it is full of movement and sound. Curators Marianna Dobkowska and Edith Jeřábková invite artists whose work, daily practice, and lives are intertwined with soil. In the exhibition, they share their stories and experiences – showing how they care for the earth, and why this matters to us all.
