Tymczasowo Group
mawkish romantic
The theme of this year’s first exhibition, presented in the {Bank Pekao Project Room} series, is mawkish romantic from the Tymczasowo Group. The presentation is an attempt to revise romance – a historical era, which left an impression on culture, philosophy, likewise politics, having an especially unique character in Poland’s culture. The artists participating in this exhibition juggle the notions of that era, showing that, contrary to stereotypes, romance does not have to be placed in opposition to reason, but in lieu, it is an essential element of modern, rational thinking. Underestimated thus far, and often today becomes the elixir to “materialistic ailments.” For the Group's members, being a romantic is an escape from all social and economic dependencies that dominate the present. Incongruities, hypersensitivity, “hysteria,” those are the attributes that add color to our structured reality; allowing “tousled” romanticism to be snuck into our everyday lives.
The artists partaking in the show grew up in the 70s, 80s, and 90, and whose works are not only an analytical revision of Romanticism, a search for the methods of its expression, but above all – an expression of the mawkish romantic’s attitude toward life.
