Tycjan Knut

Old School

Tycjan Knut's exhibition Old School in {Bank Pekao Project Room} will present images referring to the traditions of Polish avant-garde paintings of the 1960s and 70s, in which experiencing abstraction and searching for transcendence was an important element. Knut is inspired by the works of Polish Geometrists whose work he’s been following for years and has even managed to remain in direct contact with many of them. Some of these meetings with the artists were documented for self-education purposes.

Although the last 20 years  in particular the 1990s  seemed to indicate a deterioration in the use of abstract art and many artists began to refer directly to social problems (in particular, in the mainstream critical art), it is today that this interest in geometric art has been renewed through contemporary art and more and more new references to it can be observed.

Knut predominantly creates subtle abstractions in which he mirrors this geometric trend, but also wants to cross this tradition and free himself from the constraints of its formula. He employs delicate tonal differences and calm colors. His reductive paintings bear the qualities of multi-level compositions, which arose as a result of the accumulation and overlapping of colors, in a way reminiscent of the organic world. Knut is guided by intuition and frees his imagination, creating paintings closely connected to meditation.
