  • The Kazimir Malevich Artist Award is one of the most prestigious artistic awards in Ukraine. It was established in 2008 on the initiative of Jerzy Onuch, director of the Polish Institute in Kiev, and Wojciech Krukowski, director of the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art to honour Malevich, who had Polish ancestors, on the 130th anniversary of his birth. In 2018, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Ukrainian Institute, joined as organizers. The prize is awarded every two years to an outstanding Ukrainian contemporary artist, recognizing their contribution to the development of contemporary art. The previous winners of the Malevich Prize include Alevtyna Kakhidze (2008), Stas Volyazlovsky (2010), Zhanna Kadyrowa (2012), Lada Nakonechna (2014), Nikita Kadan (2016), Ivan Svitlychnyi (2018).

  • The winner of Kazimir Malevich Artist Award 2020 will receive:

    • 1. a cash prize of EUR3000 gross awarded by the Polish Institute in Kyiv;

    • 2. a three-month, fully-funded artist residency at Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, which will take place between September and November 2021 with the support of the Ukrainian Institute Український інститут and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, under which the following funds are financed:

    • a scholarship of EUR 1000 gross for each month of residence. Payment of the scholarship and other benefits will be made on the basis of an agreement concluded with the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, under which the Recipient will grant a license the project carried out during the residence, under the conditions specified in the residence agreement
    • travel costs from the place of residence to Warsaw and back
    • accommodation in a furnished studio
    • curatorial supervision of the Ujazdowski Artist Residence team.

  • The finalists of the Award and representatives of the nominating institutions (one from each) will take part in a study visit to Poland in 2021. In addition, one of the Finalists will be chosen by the Kiev-Mohyla Business School [kmbs] and will receive, among others, the possibility of organizing an exhibition at the School.

  • The artist residency programme at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art
    • is a curatorial programme addressed to artists of various disciplines, as well as curators coming to Poland from all over the world. We support our guests in the implementation of artistic projects and encourage them to experiment in the fields of their choice. We understand residencies as a medium for artistic activities that allow seeking out presentation models other than the exhibition. We conduct research projects mapping the city, involving local communities, and support the exchange of knowledge. We promote the idea of mobility within Poland and broadly understood Eastern Europe.

  • Adam Mickiewicz Institute
    • is a national institution responsible for the promotion of Polish culture and heritage on the international scene, also via the Culture.pl website updated daily with information about the most interesting events related to Polish culture. As part of its global activities, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute has presented over eight thousand events seen by almost sixty million viewers. The program supports, among others, international dialogue within the field of visual culture. This seems particularly important at the time when presence and recognition of an artist in the world determines not only the value of their art, but also its direct impact. The Institutes activities include organizing exhibitions, promoting artistic events, instigating and conducting research projects, as well as initiating and supporting publications in cooperation with international publishers. The program also involves permanent and active collaboration with foreign institutions, curators, critics, and galleries and its direct result is the presence of Polish artists at renowned artistic events, as well as offering them the opportunity to take part in residency programmes abroad.
