Designing Photobooks

Kasia Kubicka, Adam Mazur

On the second day of the Nobody Reads This: Art Book Fair, 23 May 2026, at 4:00 pm, curator and critic Adam Mazur will talk with Kasia Kubicka, designer of many awarded photobooks.

Since the early 20th century, photobook design has influenced ideas about modernity, documenting reality, and presenting history through software and the book form. The meeting with Kasia Kubicka will focus on submissions about photographic publicationsboth contemporary and historicaland how the medium allows for the construction of multi-layered visual messages. Selected Kasia Kubicka's projects, as well as dreamed-of, unrealised, and experimental projects that inform her thinking about the book as a space for photography, text, and graphic design, will serve as a starting point for the discussion. The discussion will also cover collaboration with photographers, artists, and institutions, the process of working on a publication, and ways of applying social, historical, and urban solutions to the language of the photobook.
