77 PRESS

77 Press is an independent publishing house founded in 2022 by Filip Niedenthal. Its portfolio encompasses photo albums, monographs and, more recently, works of fiction. All publications share a consistent emphasis on form, detail and materials. Drawing on over two decades in the media industry, including his role as the first editor-in-chief of Vogue Polska, Niedenthal brings extensive editorial expertise to the publishing field, with particular focus on editorial precision and close collaboration with artists.

 

BD

BD is an independent Polish publishing house operating at the intersection of contemporary art and grassroots creative initiatives. It specialises in art publications ranging from monographs and exhibition catalogues to zines and experimental printed forms. It collaborates with artists from Poland and abroad, including figures associated with the New York art scene of the 1970s and 1980s. BD’s publications create a space for dialogue between theory and artistic practice, often interweaving archival material with new visual narratives. Internationally recognised, the publishing house has received awards for both its production quality and conceptual coherence. It publishes books independently and in partnership with institutions such as the National Museum in Gdańsk, the Museum of Graffiti in Miami and Hangar 107 | Centre d’Art Contemporain in Rouen.

 

Bizarium

Bizarium is a handicraft publishing house in which books are made entirely by hand  sewn, decorated and refined down to the finest detail. Paying homage to strangeness and absurdity, it specialises in miniature books, typically produced as single copies or in short series. Bizarium also publishes comics that cloak serious and unexpected themes beneath a layer of humour. A significant part of its activity centres on Wiedźmopisy  publications situated between a notebook and an artist’s book, designed for writing and drawing.

 

BLOW UP PRESS

BLOW UP PRESS is an independent family-run publishing house based in Warsaw, specialising in photographic books and image-driven art books. Since 2012, it has consistently combined photography, design and narrative to produce publications that foster reflection and address challenging social issues. Each title is conceived as a carefully integrated whole  from photo editing and graphic design to material choices. The publishing house also organises the BUP BookAward, supporting artists in the creation of their first publications.

 

Bored Wolves

Bored Wolves is a Kraków-based publishing house producing art books, zines, poetry and poetic comics. Its particular interest lies in the interpenetration of media and genres, resulting in titles that often elude clear categorisation. To date, it has published 50 books and zines by authors from 20 countries, from Chile to Japan. Each Bored Wolves publication is unique, yet all stem from a shared approach to the book as a site of experimentation and collaboration.

 

BWA Art Gallery in Olsztyn

The BWA Art Gallery in Olsztyn runs both an exhibition and a publishing programme, documenting the work of artists associated with its activities. Each publication forms a distinct narrative  an extension of an exhibition, a record of a process, a conversation or an archive. BWA Publishing combines text, image and historical context to create books that not only present art but also interpret it. The publications are developed in dialogue with artists, and their form highlights the individuality of each project.

 

Centrala

Centrala is a publishing house specialising in graphic literature  comics, graphic novels and narrative forms in which words and images work together. Its books expand the expressive possibilities of comics and emphasise their literary potential, demonstrating that comics can be a subtle, genre-transcending medium. Although the publisher’s catalogue is diverse, all titles share a sensitivity to narrative and a respect for images as a fully fledged storytelling language.

 

Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko

The Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko operates within a historic park and palace complex and has long been one of the most significant sites for creative work and the presentation of contemporary sculpture in Poland. It runs artist residencies, organises exhibitions in both museum and park spaces, and collects artworks, creating a dynamic context for research and sculptural practice. A key part of its activity is its publishing house, which produces exhibition catalogues and artist monographs documenting the institution’s major projects and the development of contemporary Polish sculpture.

 

Convivo

The Convivo publishing house has been active for ten years and has published more than a hundred titles, around eighty per cent of which are poetry. Its books have received multiple nominations for national awards, recognising both debuts and books of the year. In 2025, volumes by Paweł Stasiewicz and Piotr Janicki were nominated for the title of Most Beautiful Book of the Year. Convivo is run by a single person, typically without grant support, although it collaborates on selected projects with academic institutions, including the University of Warsaw. The publisher places strong emphasis on editorial quality and materials, paying particular attention to the production process and the final material result.

 

Dar Dobroszyc

Dobryszyce is a village in the Łódź Province, and Dar Dobryszyc (The Gift of Dobroszyce), a publisher friendly to local artists and history, produces books rooted in everyday life, local culture and lived experience in Poland and the surrounding area. Established in 2020, the publishing house arose from a desire to create without financial pressure or market expectations, guided by the principle that we do things that we like ourselves, and that is enough. It is run by Piotr Puldzian-Płucienniczak  an artist, sociologist and publisher, who also works as a lecturer at the Faculty of Artistic Research at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

 

Dobromiła Dobro

Dobromiła Dobro experiments with text and archives, creating installations and videos. She graduated in art history from the Faculty of Artistic Research and Curatorial Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 2024, she published two books of experimental prose: KOSY (a collection of short stories and photographs) and symulacja JUICE (a visual drama/poem). For the latter, she and Agnieszka Strzeżek received the main prize in the Most Beautiful Polish Books of the Year competition in the belles-lettres category (2025). She was the curator and producer of the RADIO-TEATR project and co-curator of the Radiowa Akademia programme, which received the Warsaw Cultural Education Award (2023). She is also involved in Radio Kapitał as an activist and radio presenter.

 

The History Meeting House

For twenty years, the History Meeting House has been publishing books by renowned authors, with particular attention to contemporary design and high editorial standards. In 2024, the publication Ty i ja. Magazyn, grafika, zjawisko [You and Me. Magazine, Graphics, Phenomenon] received two awards in the Good Design competition organised by the Institute of Industrial Design. The publisher’s offer includes books on the contemporary history of Central and Eastern Europe, Poland and Warsaw  from moving memoirs to carefully designed albums and exhibition catalogues. Addressing socially important themes and relying on credible sources, the History Meeting House not only reconstructs the past but also encourages reflection on the present.

 

Fundacja Centrum Architektury

Founded in 2011, Fundacja Centrum Architektury [Architecture Centre Foundation] has been accompanied from the outset by carefully designed books, and over time publishing has become its principal activity. The Foundation runs the pioneering series Fundamenty (Foundations), which features first-time Polish translations and reissues of groundbreaking architectural manifestos and theoretical texts. It also publishes popular architectural atlases created by a team of architects and illustrators, as well as academic monographs, guidebooks, memoirs, popular science publications and architectural comics. In addition, it is developing its own collection of architectural posters and the Radio Architektura podcast.

 

Fundacja Edwarda Dwurnika

Fundacja Edwarda Dwurnika [The Edward Dwurnik Foundation] was established in 2019 on the initiative of the artist’s daughter, Apolonia Dwurnik. Its aim is to provide comprehensive care for Edward Dwurnik’s oeuvre and to widely promote his work, with the book serving as one of its most important tools. The Foundation prepares publications and catalogues that present the history of the artist’s output, emphasising its significance and influence on contemporary art in Poland. Its first publication, released in November 2023, was a monographic album devoted to the Robotnicy [Workers] series.

 

Fundacja Nowej Kultury Bęc Zmiana

Fundacja Nowej Kultury Bęc Zmiana [Bęc Zmiana New Culture Foundation] offers a wide selection of new books  key titles on architecture, design, the city, art, contemporary humanities and thoughtful literature for the youngest readers. It publishes books and the magazine notes na 6 tygodni [notebook for 6 weeks], runs its own bookshop and is involved in distribution, supplying the leading art institutions in Poland. Its primary goal is to support the development of contemporary culture, foster research on the present and strengthen awareness of the potential of public and shared space. Since 2002, it has initiated interdisciplinary projects, most of which take place in public space. The Foundation organises exhibitions, discussions, conferences and competitions for artists, architects and designers, while supporting scholarly research on contemporary culture.

 

Fundacja Ziemniaki

Fundacja Ziemniaki runs a non-commercial guest space and research library, supporting emerging artists, designers, craftspeople, writers and curators. To date, it has published two books. The first, I Dream of the Absinthium Field, explores folklore, landscape, exile and Ukrainian environmental protection. The second, How to Make Rockets Disappear, addresses themes of decolonialism, Russian cosmism and rocket technology. Both books were designed by Stopka and printed on a risograph. How to Make Rockets Disappear was recognised by the Kyiv Book Arsenal 2024 jury in the category Poetry in Design.

 

Girls and Queers to the Front

Girls and Queers to the Front is a queer-feminist initiative founded in 2015 in Warsaw by Aleksandra Kamińska and Agata Barbara Wnuk. Since 2021, together with editor Maria Halber, it has also operated as a queer micro-publishing house. It organises concerts, workshops, performances and author events, runs a radio show and publishes a zine. DIY practices and an anti-capitalist ethos play a key role in its activities, and its primary aim remains the building of a supportive community of girls, women and queer people.

 

Last Star

Last Star is a small Warsaw-based initiative focused on underground culture  music, film, theatre and offbeat artistic movements of the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s. It disseminates artefacts of alternative culture: zines, prints, posters and publications linked to the independent scene. Operating as a curatorial space, it safeguards the aesthetics and narratives of past decades, preserving their original character and energy.

 

Liberatorium

Liberatorium is an original book laboratory run by Radosław Nowakowski  a place where books are created from the first idea to the last stitch. Text, illustrations, typesetting, printing and binding are all executed by hand, making each copy a unique object. Liberatorium’s publications resist easy categorisation or genre labels, emerging from a need to not describe the world. Produced in open editions, the signed copies can be encountered at exhibitions and art book fairs, though not necessarily in bookshops.

 

living language / żywy język

living language / żywy język is a bilingual, independent publishing house based in Warsaw and run by Monika Rybińska. Combining Polish and English, it creates a space for the exchange of ideas among those working with visual and textual forms. It focuses on original and collective publications as well as literary and artistic projects, exploring new ways of combining text, image and sound. The publishing house is committed to the accessibility of art and linguistic inclusiveness, organising virtual poetry classes and writers’ meetings, as well as local events open to multilingual participants.

 

Marta Kiela-Czarnik

Marta Kiela-Czarnik is a visual artist and author of photography books whose work explores themes of everyday family life, children’s philosophical thinking, corporeality, illness, healing and spiritual experience. She studied law at the University of Warsaw, and after years in legal practice turned to photography. She graduated from the Warsaw School of Photography and Computer Graphics and participated twice in the Sputnik Photos mentoring programme (20152016 and 20222023). Her book Siewki was shortlisted for the Photographic Publication of the Year award and for the Athens Photo Festival competition in 2022.

 

Narodowy Instytut Architektury i Urbanistyki

Narodowy Instytut Architektury i Urbanistyki [The National Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning] promotes architecture and urban planning as integral elements of culture. It publishes books that popularise knowledge of post-war architecture and urban planning, including source materials, historical studies, monographs, photography books, exhibition publications and children’s books. Through its titles, it presents architecture and space from multiple perspectives  cultivating sensitivity, encouraging critical thinking and building awareness of the quality of the environments in which we live.

 

Oficyna Peryferie

Oficyna Peryferie is an independent publishing house and printing studio focusing on artistic publications  especially zines, viewed as a post-digital social medium. Since 2014, it has shared its resources and fostered a local publishing community, prioritising cooperation over competition. Its mission is to develop self-publishing practices within the visual arts in Poland and to present them in a broader perspective. It runs the Warsaw Zine Library, Crit Club and Riso Print Club. In recent years, it has taken part in the leading art book fairs and festivals, including the LA Art Book Fair, Tokyo Art Book Fair, African Art Book Fair, MISS Read Berlin, Bergen Art Book Fair, VOLUMES Zurich and Paris Ass Book Fair.

 

Pamoja Press

Pamoja Press was established by the Razem Pamoja Foundation  a collective of artists, activists and educators who have long drawn attention to minorities and disadvantaged people in general. In keeping with this ethos, the publishing house produces art books, exhibition catalogues and essays on contemporary art, architecture, cultural studies, critical theory and ecological issues. Pamoja Press collaborates with artists, researchers and curators, and many of its publications emerge from joint projects such as workshops, residencies and activities undertaken in Poland and in international contexts.

 

Państwowa Galeria Sztuki w Sopocie

Państwowa Galeria Sztuki w Sopocie [The State Art Gallery in Sopot] is one of the most important cultural institutions in Pomerania, presenting a wide spectrum of contemporary art  from painting, sculpture and photography to new media. An equally significant part of its activity, alongside organising exhibitions of Polish and international artists, is publishing. The Gallery produces exhibition catalogues containing curatorial studies, critical texts and extensive illustrative material. Distinguished by their attention to graphic design and editorial quality, these publications provide valuable documentation of the featured artists and constitute an important source of knowledge about contemporary art.

 

RUST Publishing

RUST Publishing is an independent artistic and publishing collective run by Jakub Szachnowski, Heiner L. Beisert and Daria Izworska. It focuses on contemporary forms of visual narrative, with particular emphasis on photography and the visual arts. RUST promotes niche and experimental formats  zines, art books and photographic prints  treating each publication as a distinct visual experience developed in dialogue with the possibilities and limitations of the medium.

 

Spector Books

SpectorBooks is a publishing house operating at the intersection of art, theory and design. Based in Leipzig, Germany, it explores the creative possibilities arising from active exchange between all participants in the book-making process  artists, authors, designers, lithographers, printers and bookbinders. Here, the book is understood as a medium-stage: a site of encounter, dialogue and collaborative creation.

 

TAMAKA

TAMAKA is an independent publishing house based in Berlin and operating since 2025. It publishes books on visual arts, photography, design and architecture. Its team, dispersed across several European countries, is united by a commitment to promoting unique yet underrepresented artists, for many of whom a book publication becomes a debut. Although it collaborates with a wide range of creators, artists of Belarusian origin hold a particularly important place in its activities. The mission of the publishing house is to support their voices so they can finally be heard.

 

Wspólny Pokój

Wspólny Pokój is a literary and artistic collective established in 2012 on the initiative of Beata Gula at the Staromiejski Dom Kultury [Old Town Cultural Centre], where poets, researchers, artists and editors met to discuss women’s literature. These meetings resulted in numerous books and two poetry anthologies, as well as the festival Literatura jak fotosynteza [Literature as Photosynthesis], held six times in Warsaw’s Old Town and in the Jazdów estate. Between 2020 and 2025, the group had its permanent seat at house 10/2 in Jazdów. Since 2023, it has been operating as an association and publishing house which, in addition to publishing poetry books and zines, organises literary workshops and seminars across various parts of Warsaw.

 

Współbycie

Współbycie [Co-being] is an independent publishing house focused on literature engaged with social justice, critical theory and anti-colonial, feminist and queer thought. It publishes poetry, essays, journalism and humanities in translation, with particular attention to titles that transcend genre and disciplinary boundaries. The authors published by Współbycie blur the line between theory and literature, and their experiments are not merely formal  above all, they seek to practise alternative ways of being in the world and of mutual commitment.

 

Wytwórnia

Wytwórnia has operated since 2005 as an independent publishing house specialising in books for children and young adults. Its work stems from the belief that young readers deserve to be treated as partners and offered ambitious, carefully designed books, both in content and graphic form. Wytwórnia’s publications have played a key role in shifting art books from a niche category into the mainstream of literature for young audiences. It is recognised as one of the most progressive and distinctive publishers in Europe, as evidenced by two nominations for the BOP  Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year. The publishing house also organises Mały Koneser [Little Connoisseur]  a festival and book fair for children and young people.

 

ZEALOT

ZEALOT is a series of original publications by Piotr Marzec  an interdisciplinary artist working with the medium of comics. Each issue is a collection of short, experimental forms combining visual and textual narration. The zine format and simplified production process allow the artist to release ideas and sketches for future stories straight from the drawing board and directly into readers’ hands. In 2025, the comic Smoła [Tar] was nominated for the Literary Award of the Capital City of Warsaw in the comic book and graphic novel category. The issue Zealot2, supported by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, was published in Serbian as part of the cultural events accompanying the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

 

ZINZINATTI

Zinzinatti is a collective formed within the Multimedia Publishing and Design Studio at the Faculty of Design of the Academy of Art in Szczecin, led by Prof. Danuta Dąbrowska. The group produces experimental zines, low-circulation art books and unique prints created at the intersection of art and graphic design. In 2022, the collective’s work was presented in the Zinzinatti exhibition at Trafostacja Sztuki in Szczecin. The group has also showcased its publications at major art book fairs, including Miss Read Berlin (2022, 2023), the GHMP Art Book Fair in Prague (2023) and the Athens Art Book Fair (2025).

 

Zygmunt Piotrowski

Zygmunt Piotrowski (a.k.a. Noah Warsaw), born in 1947, is an artist who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1974. From the early 1970s, he was involved in the independent culture movement, conducting research on collaboration in the creative process (Pracownia Dziekanka / Studio Artystyczno-Badawcze). In the 1980s, he pursued interdisciplinary artistic research on compositional games and their applications as alternative education. He is a co-founder of the artistic groups Aufmerksamkeitschule and Black Market International. Since the early 2000s, he has expanded his research to include visions of invisible spaces and extrasensory perception, pointing to the hidden and previously unknown direction of the Discipline of Inspiration. During the Art Book Fair, he will present his original ephemera from 19732025.
