The Lack of Forest
On the second day of the Nobody Reads This: Art Book Fair, 23 May 2026, at 3:00 pm, the Warsaw premiere of Martyna Miller's book, The Lack of Forest, published by Pamoja Press, will take place. Anka Wandzel will lead the discussion with the artist.
The Lack of Forest is the result of a multi-year project by Martyna Miller, carried out in the Tuchola Forest, which was hit by a storm in August 2017. It combines an artist's book, a reflective essay, and an open archive consisting of landscape photographs and testimonies from residents. Through her personal narrative, the author crafts a story about ecological mourning, the continued survival of communities, and the processes of biosphere regeneration. Miller also proposes reflection on ways to commemorate what has disappeared. At the centre of these reflections is the mound she created from the material of the disaster.
On the same day, at 7:00 pm, we invite you to a musical performative reading in the park in front of Ujazdowski Castle, featuring Martyna Miller, Magdalena Siemieniako, Izabela Smelczyńska, Weronika Zalewska. Admission to both events is free.
