Diary 2022

Edited by Marianna Dobkowska, Julia Harasimowicz

Diary is a handy calendar and planner published each year by Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in collaboration with artists who took part in the residency programme.

The theme of the 2022 calendar is liquid. For artists who worked on the publication, this is something that cannot be defined, constantly evolves, and finds it hard to hold its shape. This brings to mind Zygmunt Bauman’s concept of liquidity that slowly erases the established divisions and rules. Instead of reading liquidity as instability, the residents understand it as ambiguity, the possibility of transformation and change that is portrayed through a variety of visual representations.

When choosing the theme of the 2022 calendar, its editors Marianna Dobkowska and Julia Harasimowicz sought other references that would postulate changes in the anthropocentric approach to water as a raw material. They referred to water in the sense of the essential element of the planet, human and beyond-human bodies, as well as liquids that are ingested, altered, and exchanged. In Diary 2022, water is the element that connects human and non-human beings and reminds us of our origins as part of the all-encompassing hypersea — a network of water connections.
