Textile workshop with Julia Ciunowicz

 

During the workshop, we will focus on the potential of wild plants growing in the park around Ujazdowski Castle and its surroundings. We will take a closer look at it from the perspective of textile plants. Their characteristic features and social significance will be presented. Together, we will weave laces and other small objects. We will consider the role of wild plants in urban space. And also how to look for plants with textile potential and what is this potential? Keywords: potential wilderness; urban circulation; urban fibres; community-building aspects of textile work

 

  • Julia Ciunowicz 
    • is a textile artist, craftswoman and researcher working at the intersection of practice and theory of socially and ecologically engaged art. Graduate of the Faculty of Visual Culture Management at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and Social Arts at the University of Warsaw. In her artistic work, using the loosely defined medium of textiles and plants, she explores the themes of folklore, women’s art, the relationship between humans and nature, and the social aspects of textile production. In her research, she focuses on the history of ecologically engaged art. For years, she has been exploring the topic of permaculture gardening and herbalism in both theory and practice, running a community garden and numerous workshops. On a daily basis, she works with textiles and fibres, running a natural dyeing, weaving, and basketry studio called Wild Weaves.
